An elderly man from Enga province appeared at the Waigani Committal Court today over allegations he conspired with others to sign a court document for a case before the National Court.

PPL said in a statement that it will not take part in any stop work or shut down of power supply as this is not an industry issue but a political fight.

“The threats have sparked fear and anxiety amongst electricity consumers of the impending power outage relating to the purported strike action. As the chief executive officer of PPL, I would like to assure electricity consumers and the general public that we will maintain the provision of electricity services and will not participate in such strike action,” CEO Chris Bais stated.

Mangos was terminated on December 4, 2015.

His lawyer has since filed an application at the National Court seeking he remain on the PNG Power payroll as they says his termination was not on direction of the National Executive Council.

The matter returned to the Waigani National Court today where his lawyer, Mal Varitimos told the court his client was appointed by the NEC as the Executive Director of PPL and appointments of the NEC can only be revoked by the NEC itself.

Varitimos said his client is not seeking damages as he has an arguable case before the court.

Mangos’  lawyers appeared before acting Judge Danjo Koeget this morning seeking to move the motion that was objected to by counsel  representing PNG Power and the PPL Board members who are the first and second defendants respectively.

Counsel representing PPL moved for an adjournment to late February while he seeks instructions from the board members who are currently on vacation.

 Counsel for Mangos, Greg Sheppard said while Mangos was terminated as the Executive Director of PPL, he remains a member of the board.

Markham Bio-mass project developer, Oil Search yesterday signed the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with PNG Power today in Port Moresby.

Oil Search owns 70 percent of the project and Aligned Energy 30 percent.

The PPA agreement will see state owned electricity supplier purchase electricity to beef up its Ramu grid capacity.

The project is located in Morobe Province, and  more than 200,000 trees are being planted to feed this project.
