Mangos voluntarily resigned, says Ogil

“A submission in relation to this board decision has been given to the Minister for Public Enterprises and State Investments, William Duma, to bring to the National Executive Council (NEC) to formalise the Board's decision,” Ogil said in a statement.

“The Board's decision to terminate Mangos' employment contract with PPL was relayed to him. He subsequently agreed and formally tendered his resignation on 11th May, 2016.”

A circular issued to the staff of PNG Power today confirmed this.

Tangit was suspended last year after the failed rural electrification project in the Angoram District of East Sepik Province was raised in Parliament by the local MP Salio Waipo.

While Tangit was reinstated as per a circular today, the National Executive Council yesterday reinstated John Mangos as the Executive Director of PNG Power.

However, news of Mangos reinstatement was not welcomed at the PPL head office at Hohola this morning when he was prevented from entering the office gates.

Court rules in favour of Mangos

The National Court’s ruling this morning went in favour of Mangos to preserve the status quo until the substantive issues in the proceedings are fully heard and determined by the court.

The substantive issue which will be dealt with by the court on a later date is whether the PPL Board had the power to terminate Mangos’ employment.

Acting Judge Danajo Koeget in his ruling said whether PPL had the power to terminate Mangos’ employment is a serious issue to be tried in the proceeding.

Terminated PPL boss case deferred

The matter was supposed to return before acting Judge Danjo Koeget today for ruling however it was deferred to next Tuesday.

This is from an application filed by Mangos at the National Court seeking to remain on the PNG Power payroll as he says his termination was not on directions of the National Executive Council.

The matter last went before the court on Jan 14 where his lawyer, Mal Varitimos told the court his client was appointed by the NEC as the Executive Director of PPL and appointments of the NEC can only be revoked by the NEC itself.

Mangos’ sacking temporarily halted

This was the order of  acting Judge Danjo Koeget this morning when he granted interim orders to Mangos to maintain the status-quo while the court awaits counsel representing PNG Power Ltd and the PPL Board members to attain their 2016 legal practicing certificates.

The court also granted the interim order for Mangos’ entitlements to be paid until the matter returns next week Thursday (Jan 14).

The interim orders sought by Mangos were granted today after the issue of counsels’ 2016 legal practicing certificates was brought up.
