900 teachers in Madang await leave fares

With the 2024 academic year weeks away from commencing, many teachers are still waiting and have been kept in suspense. Those waiting will face the dilemma of taking leave upon receiving their payments or putting off holidays altogether.

According to Madang Education Office acting advisor John Ura, the Treasury Office has advised them that individual cheques have been written out for teachers banking with Kina Bank and Westpac and are ready to be disbursed; however, pending the signing of Form 11.

Teachers leave fares delayed

He claimed that the delay in paying leave fares was due to the provincial education sector's late submission of claims for approval on time.

Pariwa was responding to concerns raised by teachers in the province who had not received their leave fares with the holidays almost over. 

He said the Education sector just provided claims last week to the provincial administration and is now with the finance division for processing. 

Teachers in Morobe collect leave fares

This year, the arrangement for teachers to receive their leave entitlements was different; fives names from each region were now being called out.

This meant that teachers no longer have to push and shove to get to the front of the queue.

Provincial Program Advisor for education, Keith Tangui, said this year, the name list containing at least 2,000 applications was closely scrutinised, including teachers’ file numbers, place of origin, marital status and number of dependents.

My Leave Fare App and My Task Management App were launched at the PNG Education Institute’s Curriculum Development Division, by the Minister for Education, Joseph Yopyyopy this week. 

This Application will assist the department to manage leave fares for public servants within the departments and teachers in the field including teaching staff at Teachers Colleges.
