Kokoda Boxing Challenge

Kokoda Boxing Challenge a test for PNG boxers

It will see PNG boxers squaring up against champion boxers from Australia, Boxing New South Wales and Boxing Victoria.

The Kokoda Boxing Challenge between PNG and Australian boxers started back in 2016 to commemorate ANZAC Day through sports. The event gives the national boxers the opportunity to compete against top opponents.

President of PNG Boxing Union Inc. Dr. Gideon Kendino said this boxing challenge would be the real test for PNG boxers to measure their strength, stamina, and skills against quality opposition from Australia.

PNG Boxers to participate in Olympic qualifier

While this has been the commemorative event for the Fuzzy Wazzy Angels, it also presents the opportunity for PNG Boxers to secure spots at the Olympic Qualifying fights in Thailand.

Papua New Guinea Boxing Union President, Dr Gideon Kendino said one or two fighters would be selected from the Kokoda Challenge to join the team of boxers for the Olympic Qualifiers to be held in Thailand.

Four eligible boxers, three male and one female boxer have already been selected for the Olympic Qualification fight to be staged in Thailand later in the year.

Kokoda challenge ends on high

The highly anticipated international Kokoda Boxing Challenge was an important fundraiser event for PNG Boxing Union which would greatly assist in its endeavours to provide our boxers much needed ring time as well as getting the team to Brisbane for more quality training before the Pacific games.

PNG Boxing Union President, Dr. Gideon Kendino while thanking the NSW Team for making the event a success, expressed gratitude and thanks to the corporate sponsors and partners for their generous support including Air Niugini and Lamana Gold Club for the providing the fight venue.
