The people of East Sepik prayed and were blessed when Police Commissioner Gari Baki officially opened a new police station funded through the Constabulary’s modernisation program.

Two million was expended on this project and already, Commissioner Baki is contemplating on the prospect of increasing manpower in Angoram to maintain law and order.

While delivering his speech Commissioner Baki said the occasion may be small but it was also significant because it demonstrated the Government’s commitment to serving its people.

The Parents and Citizens Association (PCA) is calling for a full investigation into the conduct of certain individuals whose actions are directly affecting the smooth flow of the school operations since 2013.

This is having a negative effect on the academic programs and infrastructure developments of the school.

The Sepik River Crocodile Festival is a three day cultural celebration staged annually in Ambunti, East Sepik Province, of Papua New Guinea.

The festival is usually held every first weekend of August and this year, it will be celebrated tomorrow (Friday 5^th) through to Sunday, August 7^th.

The year 2016 marks the festival’s 10^th anniversary. It celebrates one of PNG’s famous tribal heartland and the significance of the well-regarded crocodile - a significant part of the Sepik culture.

Over 20 self-sponsored students will travel home due to the closure of the 2016 academic year.

An official from the office of the member visited the students at the UPNG Waigani campus yesterday at the Open Arts Theatre (OAT) to officially announce their travel arrangements and issue their electronic ticket numbers.

First 11 students will depart this morning, including nine males and two females, while the second lot of five students will be squeezed in to travel on the afternoon flight.

The April Salumei REDD+ Pilot Project is located in the 526,000 hectares’ area of East Sepik Province.

It involves an estimated total of 126 landowner groups and represented by six landowner companies under the April-Salumei REDD+ Working Group.

The REDD+ initiatives will mitigate greenhouse gases from the atmosphere and stabilise the global temperature. The project is the first project PNG has actually brought it to the point of sale.

Landowners came from the project area in the Ambuti/Drekikir and Wosera/Gawi of ESP for the discussions with stakeholders.

This is one of the proposed routes for the state owned subsidiary of Air Niugini to land in East Sepik the Province.

Link PNG acting general manager Marco McConnell told Loop PNG that a lot of work is still needed for the airstrip to meet standard and criteria for flight operations.     

“A lot of work had to go into that like, feasibility studies, surveys, markets in that area for approvals.”

He added that airport authorities will have to certify the airstrip before planes can land.  

The duo were arrested by East Sepik police on February  15, 2016.

Police allege that K803,866.00 for Moem Barracks rehabilitation was instead used to carry out renovation project at the East Sepik Provincial Police Headquarters Building instead by Wewak Building Contractor.

Elizabeth Kaprangi  was invited for Record of Interview on Monday where she was formally arrested and charged for one (1) account of Misappropriation under Section 383 A (1) of the Criminal Code Act and one (1) account of  Abuse of Office under section 92 (1) of the criminal.

Kesemba is located in East Yangoru LLG of the Yangoru-Saussia District of East Sepik Province.

Local MP and Minister for Trade, Commerce and Industry Richard Maru opened his people’s early Christmas present on Monday, with fanfare as the villagers showed their appreciation with traditional singings and celebrations.

The 7km road built at a cost of K150,000 was funded by the National Government now links Kesemba to Munji along the main Sepik Highway.   

Maru when opening the road, told his people to choose good leaders to see changes in their area.

Eight houses in a village in East Sepik Province were burnt to the ground, allegedly by police brought into the district by a local Member of Parliament to curb crime in his electorate.

Fight against breast cancer in ENB gaining strength

The police report that the youths are part of a community initiative in Daru to deal with the law and order issue of youths drinking homebrew.

In a quiet ceremony this morning the three youths handed over the equipment as a sign of good will to the police in the area.

Meantime, the Western Province police have had an issue with home brew and marijuana which has prompted the command to embark on a campaign to rid the area of drugs and home brew.
