Young Naipao joins Gurias

Growing up, the son of former Kumul enforcer Dr.James Naipao, was attracted to both rugby league and Aussie Rules during his schooling days. Before joining the Gurias, Reagan was playing for the West Eagles in the Port Moresby AFL competition.

According to Reagan, he plays more rules than rugby league, which is a different trajectory to what his dad did back in the 90s. Dr Naipao was a strong and loyal Tarangau rugby league clubman, who went on to represent his country on numerous occasions.

Gurias to finalise 2024 squad

An initial squad of 34 players has been announced in the interim to kick-start the preseason program this week.

60 per cent of the playing group are from the 2022-2023 playing roster while the balance of the squad is either new or returning.

The Gurias also announced a new coaching staff to take charge of the team in 2024.

Gurias legend and former assistant coach Jessie Alunga has been elevated to the Gurias top job as head coach while inaugural Sepik Pride coach and former Gurias trainer Joe Bruno returns to the fold as Alunga’s Assistant Coach.

Book Week celebrates future rugby players

The book, aimed at motivating young minds to envision their future careers, was introduced by 10 enthusiastic children from Buk bilong Pikinini (BbP) during a remarkable field trip to the iconic Sir Hubert Murray Stadium.

The purpose of the trip was to offer these children a firsthand experience of the life of a rugby player, engaging with SP Hunters Players and absorbing the essentials of the profession.

Gurias hold off Vipers

The Kalabond Oval was again buzzing with faithful Gurias fans and supporters as the much anticipated traditional rivals took to center stage.

Gurias were first to trouble the scoreboard in the opening half. Ironically it was former Vipers centre, William Tirang stealing an intercept from Vipers winger Edene Gebbie for a 90m dash to the line, but the conversion missed Gurias 4-0

Fifteen minutes to halftime, Gurias Steven Bruno got  a short pass from Mark Alunga and raced in from 20 meters out to put Gurias further infront 8-0

Going into Sundays block buster both teams were sharing top spot in their pool with 10 points apiece with Vipers edging Gurias out on percentage.

Foundation clubs Rabaul Gurias and Port Moresby Vipers took to the Santos National Football stadium on Sunday to replicate and show off their wares why they are still the benchmark teams of the national rugby league.

The physicality and pace of top of the Pool B classic was next level that kept the vocal crowd cheering their teams on throughout the intriguing match-up.
