Manus provincial police commander, Chief Inspector David Yapu, said the deceased, from Butjou in Pobuma LLG, was walking home after school at Manus Training Centre when she was confronted by the suspect, who works in a Chinese shop.

She was stabbed with a small knife and sustained injuries to her head, left hand and left side.

She was rushed to the Lorengau General Hospital but died on arrival due to loss of blood.

The house in Monsey, north of New York City, was hosting a religious celebration when the attacker burst in, according to the Orthodox Jewish Public Affairs Council (OJPAC).

The suspect fled but was later taken into custody, police said. The motive was not immediately clear.

One of the victims was stabbed at least six times, OJPAC said in a tweet.

The attack came a day after New York city police said officers were stepping up patrols in heavily Jewish districts following a spate of anti-Semitic threats and attacks.

A second woman was found dead inside an apartment building on the same street.

"All the information we have at hand would link these two crimes," police commissioner Mick Fuller said at a press conference.

He said the suspect was a "lone actor" with a history of mental health issues.

He was known to police but "his history was unremarkable compared to the gravity of the crimes he committed", Mr Fuller said.

The police commissioner said the suspect had some ideologies related to terrorism, but had no apparent links to other terrorist organisations.

At least 16 people have been injured in the mass attack and at least two people are reportedly dead. Police have confirmed one girl has died.

The suspect reportedly stabbed himself in the neck and was later detained. He has now died from his injuries.

The motive for the attack is unknown.

Police responding to the violent incident recovered two knives, said NHK.

This was echoed in the Waigani National Court by a judge who sentenced a woman to 15 years in prison for killing another woman who was also married to her husband.

On June 4^th, 2016, Engan woman Serah James killed one of her husband’s wives at the Erima Wildlife, in Port Moresby.

Prosecution asked for a sentence term of between 25-30 years in jail for the offence, but the court sentenced James to 15 years in jail yesterday, for taking another person’s wife.

The deceased was stabbed during a fight last week at one of the communities in Taraka when he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.

His passing led to a riot among members of the community and police in Lae were on high alert, saying situation was very tense.

Chief Inspector Timothy Pomoso, standing in for the Lae Metropolitan Superintendent, said the incident has caused a disturbance amongst the communities and police were monitoring it.

However, he is confident the police personnel will contain the issue.

Jeffery Saa was sentenced by the Waigani National Court on Monday after he stabbed his wife in full view of the public on 14 March 2014 at Waikele market, Gerehu Stage 6 following an argument.

The deceased was selling betel nut at the market when she was approached by her husband who was armed with a knife.

Saa stabbed his wife in the back with a knife which penetrated through her chest wall piercing her heart which indicated that a substantial amount of force was exerted to inflict such wound.

Treasurer Patrick Pruaitch in handing down the 2016 budget of K14.2 billion says the increase in revenue is expected to come from excise duty and the goods and services tax.

The suspect,  from Ihu in the Gulf Province, bashed the son who retaliated and took out a knife which angered his father who managed to wrestle the knife from the son but stabbed him in the process.

The man will be charged with assault with a deadly weapon and is due to appear in court next week.

The victim, according to police reports,  was stabbed twice in the chest and has since received treatment from the hospital.
