Relatives of the PNG flag designer, Susan Karike Huhume, are showing moral support for their wantok. They are taking up the cry for better entitlements for the brains behind the country's flag.

Spokesperson Saba Savara said they started gathering early this morning after reading a story from Loop PNG yesterday.

"We are planning on staying here until we get a government representative to come and give an insight into what plans are there for her," Savara told Loop PNG.

Susan Hareho Karike (now Mrs Huhume) is on life support at the Ward 7/Intensive Care Unit.

Her eldest son, Philip Huhume, is concerned that his mother has been overlooked for almost 30 years.

“Will the government recognise her while she’s still alive?”

He told Loop PNG that people know the flag but have no idea of the woman behind it.

“Bikpla samting mi laikim em i mas gat luksave lo mama.” (Most important thing I want is recognition for mother.)

Philip has also asked for the country to support his mother in prayer.

Every week, the Port Moresby General Hospital needs approximately 400 bags of clean blood to assist those in need.

To collect that many donations the blood bank team will screen approximately 800 volunteers each week as not everyone who volunteers will be able to donate due to health reasons.

Blood can only be stored for a limited amount of time before use which is why there is a constant need for regular blood supply.

Regular blood donations by a sufficient number of healthy people are needed to ensure that safe blood will always be available.

Muddle departed the country over the weekend after his contract ended in June this year.

PNG NDA president Dr James Naipao said the hospital has seen a tremendous change under Muddle’s leadership since he joined almost three-and-a-half years ago.

Naipao highlighted that Muddle has performed extremely above expectation as a CEO, and as a result, PMGH has seen a lot of changes never seen in the last 20 years.

“It is a pity PMGH and PNG will lose a performing CEO.
