Planetshakers concert

Planetshakers concert cancelled

The concert started on Friday, August 25.

After the first night, numerous security concerns were raised by residents with reports of muggings, harassment, drunk and disorderly behaviour, and many more.

The event however, continued on the second night (August 26) as planned, but with increased security measures taken by organisers.

When contacted by Loop PNG yesterday, the committee said the concert will continue through.

Planetshakers on security

The concert organising committee, in response to Loop PNG’s questions yesterday, says a few changes were made, including an increase to security.

This action followed concerns and reports by a number of concert goers on safety risks at the Sir John Guise stadium.

Security measures for last night had been increased, were 100 more members of the police force came on board.

“We also asked the venue gate controls to have separate entrances for those wanting to buy a ticket and those who already have one.

Police: 8 children rushed to hospital during concert

NCD metropolitan superintendent, Ben Turi, told Loop PNG that the children suffered injuries as well as experienced breathing difficulties as the stadium was overcrowded.

Furthermore, there were reports of children being trampled as well as muggings at the stadium.

“Police were outnumbered as more than 15,000 people had turned up for the event.

“It was overcrowded, dangerous and disorganised,” says Turi. “Outside as well as the inside of the stadium was packed.

“Drunkards, thugs, all sorts of characters went in. It was very primitive.”
