NRL Premiership trophy arrives on PNG soil

The Provan-Summons trophy arrived this afternoon in Port Moresby accompanied by three officials of the 2015 NRL premiers  team, the North Queensland Cowboys.

Former Cowboys, State Of Origin Queensland and Australian representative Brent Tate proudly showed off  the trophy at the airport after walking out of the arrival launching.

The public at the airport including passengers, security guards and airport staff rushed over to get a glimpse and feel of the trophy.

The Provan-Summons trophy will arrive in Moresby on Thursday (29 October) accompanied by three officials of the 2015 NRL premiers, the North Queensland Cowboys.

They are former Cowboys, State of Origin Queensland and Australian rep Brent Tate, Cowboys general manager- commercial Steve Mitchell, and senior sales and development manager Jeffrey Reibel.

They will be welcomed at the Jackson’s International Airport by staff from Trukai Industries.

Granville confident he's up to speed

Select NRL matches will be broadcasted starting this weekend on the new TVWAN Rugby Channel.

Sydney Roosters cruise to 46-10 win over Manly Sea Eagles

The Roosters hardly missed a beat without some of their biggest guns as they moved to within touching distance of a third straight minor premiership.

With Mitchell Pearce, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, Michael Jennings and Shaun Kenny-Dowall watching from the dugout, the Roosters were clinical in their 11th straight victory.

Wingers Brendan Elliot and Daniel Tupou each racked up hat-tricks in the eight-tries-to-two victory.

ANZAC Test to be played after NRL season from 2018

After months of behind-the-scenes negotiations, Nine will screen matches four days a week starting in 2018, in a deal worth "up to $925" million, the NRL said.

The NRL said it was the biggest deal in free-to-air TV history.

The number of live games on free-to-air TV will increase from the present two to four, with matches to be played during prime time on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and on Sunday at 4pm.

NRL chief executive Dave Smith said the deal had secured the long term future of the game.'

Calls to scrap live broadcasts of State of Origin matches in PNG

STATE of Origin contests have long been famed as arenas epitomising physical aggression and tribal combativeness. However, that aggression is spilling over the sidelines with horrifying consequences.

There have been calls to ban live broadcasts of Origin games in Papua New Guinea because of violent outbursts that are erupting after matches, resulting in deaths.

Speaking to the ABC, an Enga police spokesman said the interstate matches drove people into a frenzy, and that the only way to eradicate this behaviour was to ban all live coverage.

Queensland clinch 2015 series

The 46-point margin broke previous highest winning margin in Origin history of 40 points, set by the Blues 15 years ago.

It was also only the second time in Origin history that a team has scored more than 50 points after NSW defeated Queensland 56-16 in the aforementioned match in Game Three, 2000.
