PPL Kavieng under critical generation deficiency

Power usually goes off after 6am, and gets restored between 8pm and 9pm.

PNG Power Ltd Kavieng Powerhouse said it is under critical generation deficiency, and they have been undertaking load shedding to maintain electricity to essential services since June 1st.

“Current situation is tense with only one generator (unit) online and is overriding all manual controls.

“As such, the reliability is subjected to the generation capacity.

“We have since then procured all required parts for the other units and are adamant to get one unit back online.

Load shedding causes power outages: PPL

In a statement PNG Power says the load shedding is to repair ageing equipment at Boroko sub-station.

PPL says the recent introduction of NiuPower into the Port Moresby grid has led to load shedding exercise due to lack of compensating reactive power to meet demand.

Negotiations with NiuPower to adjust their generator settings have seen a reduction in load shedding from two feeders to one per day, as well as reducing load shedding hours from seven to five.

Vanimo still on power load shedding

PPL in a statement said that the load shedding will continue for an indefinite period until the two out of service generators are fixed.

Electricity for Vanimo is generated and supplied by two PPL generators and a leased generator from Aggreko.

“One of the PPL generators has a major technical fault and is undergoing maintenance.

“The leased generator from Aggreko had a technical fault and will be removed from Vanimo.
