Digicel staff begin visits to learning centres to celebrate Christmas

The Digicel Foundation Christmas Community Learning Centres X-mas Visit Program 2016, is an annual event organised by the Digicel Foundation team, which invites staff members from every Digicel department to participate.

During these visits, Digicel staff members share the spirit of Christmas with the children from 12 CLC and also took the opportunity to acknowledge and reward the students for their achievements throughout the academic year.

Early Christmas for Erima children

Laden with sweets, gifts and goodie bags, Digicel staff were greeted at the gate with hearty carols and beaming smiles from the more than 150 students, ranging from 3 to 12 years old.

Their smiles soon turned into earsplitting grins when Santa came swaggering in to join the party. Everyone rushed to shake hands with Santa as he let out a jovial “Ha ha ha!” instead of the traditional “ho ho ho” that we are all used to.

The initiative is part of Digicel PNG Foundation’s annual CLC Christmas program.

Businessman found with illegal firearm at Pom road check

NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Ben Turi says the businessman will be going in for further questioning about how the unlicensed firearm ended up in his possession.

“We are looking to get to the bottom of where he got this firearm from; the bullets are alleged to be from the PNGDF armoury.”

PNGDF has been alerted and investigations are underway to find out who sold the pistol and bullets to the businessman.

Turi thanks officers on duty for confiscating the firearm during these routine checks.

Investigations are underway both by the police Internal Investigation Unit and NCD police as apparently it involved NCDC police.

“The role of police is to mediate and resolve conflicts in a peaceful manner, and we are seeing situations where this is not the case.

“We appreciate the work of police who are doing their best to maintain peace and order in our communities.

“But there are a few Police that are not using reasonable means to address challenges they face and they jump into situations where they are trigger happy.
