Strong winds continue for Southern region

A renewal strong wind warning has been issued by the PNG National Weather Service this morning.

The strong wind warning is ongoing for a month now as the southeast trade winds prevail over forecast waters.

Strong winds will affect all coastal waters of Southern PNG through Torres Strait and Daru to Kiwai Island to Kerema to Yule Island and Hood Point.

Strong southeast winds of 25/34 knots are expected to continue for the next 24 hours causing rough seas.

Strong wind warning issued for southern coast of PNG

The weather office in Port Moresby issued this warning today for all coastal waters of Southern PNG through Torres Strait and Daru to Kiwai Island, Kerema, Yule Island and Hood Point.

There’ll be strong southeast winds of 20/34 knots expected to continue for the next six hours, causing rough seas and high wind waves.

The weather forecaster advises all small crafts and boats to take necessary precautions before going out to sea.

Strong winds for Bougainville, MBP and NIP

The weather office has issued a renewed strong wind warning and isolated showers for all coastal waters in these provinces.

Strong northwest surge of 25/34 knots are expected to continue for the next 24 hours causing rough seas.

People are urged to take precaution when traveling out to sea.

All small crafts and boats are also urged to take necessary precautions before going out to sea.

Strong winds continue throughout PNG

Forecaster Charlie Vulum issued the warning this morning for all coastal waters of southern PNG/Indonesian border through to Torres Strait and Daru to Kiwai Island.

Warning is issued also to people along the coast of Milne Bay to Finschhafen through Vitiaz Strait and Siassi Island to Long Island to Madang and Bogia.

This includes all coastal waters of New Guinea Islands Region except for Manus and northern New Island.

All small craft and boats are adviced to take the necessary precaution before going out to sea.

The weather office says this is due to tropical cyclone Tatiana located within 85km of 17.30S, 159.00E that is offshore of Queensland.

3,000 evacuated as wildfires burn for 3rd day in Spain

Some 1,000 residents were evacuated from the town Hoyos in the early hours of the morning after overnight winds "reversed all yesterday's firefighting achievements," said Extremadura regional government president Guillermo Fernandez Vara.

Storm moving east after tornado, injuries in Illinois

The storm was moving east, threatening to bring similar weather to northern Indiana and parts of Michigan, where strong winds also damaged homes, prompted rescues and knocked out power to thousands of people late Monday and early Tuesday.

Particularly hard hit was a private camping resort in Sublette, an Illinois community about 100 miles west of Chicago. Fire Chief Kevin Schultz said damage was worse than anticipated, spread across about 700 acres of the Woodhaven Association resort.
