O’Neill made the call when speaking at the provincial assembly meeting on Thursday 26^th January 2023 in Mendi town.

The occasion was significant as O’Neill and Prime Minister James Marape for the first time met and discussed matters of interest to the province putting aside political indifferences.

PPC Yangen said the security forces are ready and prepared. He said the Quick Response Force on the ground comprises Police Mobile Squad and PNG Defence Force personnel and local police officers.

“We are waiting for the rollover teams to arrive from Enga Province to boost our manpower strength,” he said.
