Prince Charles in his condolence message expressed profound sadness after learning of the death of late Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare.

He said having represented the Queen in his first visit to Papua New Guinea to witness PNG’s independence celebration in 1975, he knew what a remarkable role Sir Michael played in leading our people to attain independence, in ensuring his country’s democracy.

He said although he had already apologized on several occasions, it is only fitting to do it again as the body of the late Grand Chief Sir lies in state, in the Parliament chamber for the last time.
 
Namah also apologised to former Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia for storming the court house.
 
He clarified that his move during those times were politically motivated and not personal.
