48th Independence celebration

“Having seen the college embrace culture through visual context in the form of legends and traditional food preparations, I think it’s very important that as the new generation comes into existence we must help them to understand what has taken place in the past in order to move forward into the future,” she told the parents and the students.

The school marked the independence with the show casing of legendary videos which they had created alongside their teachers and the support of parents.

FODE Principal Anthony Rayappan said Independence is a time to stand tall among all the nations and showcase our distinct identity.  

“Every year we celebrate independence we must think, embrace and respect those forefathers, leaders and the freedom fighters,” he said.

He said it was a time to reflect on the struggles they went through to get the nation this far.

“Today we are enjoying the fruit of the seed they sewed 48 years ago,” he said.

The event marked the commencement of the Independence Day celebrations for Papua New Guinea's capital city.
