Yangoru-Saussia district

The Maringe WaSH facility is part of a chain of projects implemented this month. It was opened on Wednesday 4^th May at the Hinges Hamlet. A 5,500 liter tuffa tank was set up at the Maringe Adventist Church by the District Development Authority.

Community leaders were thankful that the DDA, led by MP Maru, are changing the norm, where womenfolk shoulder the burden of carrying jerry cans to water holes and back, over long distances.  

Every household that generated K600, was supported by the DDA with K6,000. With this, they were given a water tank.

Member Richard Maru said all 96 wards, including those in the mountains and the vast Sepik plains were visited by NID officers to register people.

The program was launched on June 18 2019 and all registrations were completed on May 25 2021, essentially taking only two years to complete the roll-out program.

Maru said this milestone could not have been reached without the support of the Yangoru Saussia District Development Authority.

Minister for National Planning & Monitoring and Yangoru-Saussia MP, Richard Maru, launched the project for the first 4-in-1 classroom building and four teachers’ houses worth K1 million.

Winge Junior High is the second high school to be launched after the Minister launched the construction of Numbo Junior High on Wednesday.

For years, children from Winge have had to travel long distances to get to high schools in other parts of the district.

This follows the groundbreaking ceremony last week at Handra by Minister for National Planning and Monitoring and local MP, Richard Maru.

Numbo locals gathered at Handra to welcome the Minister and his delegation.

“Mi hamamas Minista, lo wanem yu luksave lo krai blo pipol blo mipla. Tenk yu true em dei blo mipla,” said Michael Kombo, Numbo LLG President.

Handra Junior High will be the sixth high school in Yangoru-Saussia, the biggest number in East Sepik.

A seventh will also be launched at Winge, bringing the total number to seven.

Local MP and Minister for National Planning and Monitoring, Richard Maru, says discussions are being held with PNG Power.

He announced this during his visit to the District last week.

Minister Maru said discussions have already begun at the possibility of his district having its own power grid.

He said currently, major agricultural projects are being planned for the District however, a reliable power supply was needed.

“We have spoken to PNG Power to look at an independent power grid for Yangoru-Saussia district so we don’t depend on Maprik or Wewak.”

The launching was held at Baimuru Village in East Yangoru.

Baimuru Village hosted a celebratory welcome for the delegation led by local MP and Minister for National Planning and Monitoring, Richard Maru, and High Commissioner Davies.

Baimuru is one of the sites in the District which has implemented the WaSH Program under funding from Oxfam and the DFAT Australia and the District Development Authority. The village also put in 10 percent of the cost of the project.

The Project has been hailed a success and will benefit mostly the womenfolk.

Constructed at the cost of K150,000, the people of Kumun, Kuwaiyan and Winjuhon villages expressed gratitude to the Minister for Trade, Commerce & Industry and Member for Yangoru-Saussia District, Richard Maru, for finally recognising their  need.

The road runs from Kumun to Winjuhon village.

The villagers also witnessed the opening of a new elementary classroom that was constructed at Winjuhon village at a total cost of K20,000. The funding was derived from the District Services Improvement Program.

The people of Sekoro Village in Yangoru-Saussia district finally have a reason to celebrate with the construction of a new road access into their village.

Women, youths and children expressed gratitude to local MP and Minister for Trade, Commerce & Industry, Richard Maru, for bringing road access into their village.

Sekoro Village councillor Mathew Hogori said the years of misery, tears and pain have now been wiped away.

 Preparations are well underway. All PMVs in the district have been hired, banners  have been hung along the Sepik Highway and roads in the district.

 Awareness messages have been given to schools in all the four) LLGs of the district --  Numbo,Sausso, East and West Yangoru.

Minister for Trade Commerce and Industry and Member for Yangoru-Saussia District, Richard Maru said activities will start today culminating with the SME Day on Friday.
