Minister promotes business cause at home

The Yangoru-Saussia district in East Sepik Province is gearing up to make history as the first district in 40 years of independence to host a district wide SME Day on Friday (July 3).

 Preparations are well underway. All PMVs in the district have been hired, banners  have been hung along the Sepik Highway and roads in the district.

 Awareness messages have been given to schools in all the four) LLGs of the district --  Numbo,Sausso, East and West Yangoru.

Minister for Trade Commerce and Industry and Member for Yangoru-Saussia District, Richard Maru said activities will start today culminating with the SME Day on Friday.

“We have a target number of SMEs to identify, start and support the growth of our 10,000 formal SMEs in the Yangoru-Saussia District over the next 15 years starting 2015 in line with our Government’s SME policy aspirations,’’ said Minister Maru.

He said the Yangoru-Saussia District Development Authority had been concentrating on getting the basics right over the past 3 years.

These include maintaining and constructing roads, improving education and health services and instilling law and order. 

“This has resulted in the   district now being conducive for businesses. We are now ready to support our people start to grow their businesses. We must kill the free hand-out (kaikai man pasin) mentality. This mentality has killed our hard work and entrepreneurial spirit,’’said Maru.

“We are a hardworking, smart and resilient people known for hard work and entrepreneurial drive. After 40 years, the days of looking for employment and business opportunities in other parts of the country must stop. It is time to return home to our district and our province,’’  he said.
