K17m for Western Province Projects

While on a tour of rural areas of the province, PM Marape announced before the handover of the cheques that K7 million of the cheques presented is for the upgrading and sealing of the road works in Daru. This cheque was presented to a locally based contractor. 
 
He said another K5 million cheque will go towards the start of punching in a new road from Oriomo to Wiem.  
 

Empower Youths Through Sports: Teacher

School teacher, Justin Mageru, was team manager for Sewiri Seeds, who took part in the first leg of the Satellite Rugby Union 7s tournament.

He was managing the team because he supported the idea of empowering the youth of South Fly District, Western Province.

Mageru said one too many times, he had seen youths being ignored or left out of active participation in the development of the district and province, and hopes that sports can change that.

Community Calls For Support

After more than a decade, the community has taken the initiative to provide and support each other.

Solomon Community is a small community in Daru, Western Province that has always struggled to make ends meet for its individual families.

Community leaders, Alex Doie said it took him at least 10 years to change the attitudes of the youth in the area. He said it wasn’t easy but he managed to change the behaviour of the people especially the youth.

Thousands Lost To Unrendered Services

Managing Director for Maru Marines, Meremi Maina has vocally raised his frustration against PNG Power saying that hundreds of Kina are been taken by PNG Power for electricity supply but they were not fulfilling its purpose in providing electricity.

He said the company, has lost up to one K1m worth of seafood products due to lack of power supply.

Mr Maina said it’s heart wrecking to see so much money the company has spent on maintaining equipment and machines.

11yo girl gets much-needed treatment

She was medevaced on Tuesday, December 10th.

Margaret Wasae, the third child in a family of five, was admitted to the Tabubil hospital on the 13th of December, with sub mandible abscess that needed to be drained. She went for surgery on the 14th of December and was discharged from the hospital on the 21st of December.

Margaret’s mother, Genasi Samoa Wasae, extended her gratitude to Ok Tedi Mining Limited for their assistance.

“I am happy and I thank Ok Tedi for stepping in to assist my daughter get proper medical treatment in time,” Wasae said.

South Fly submits 2016 DSG acquittal reports

The acquittal reports were presented  to the Department of Implementation and Rural Development (DIRD) in Port Moresby on Wednesday February 22, 2017. 

The district also had a privilege to receive their 2016 non-discretionary component of K250,000 cheque issued by the department (DIRD) in presence of the Acting District Development Authority Chairman Bolozi Iowa and the district public servants.
