R Kelly found guilty in sex trafficking trial

Eleven accusers, nine women and two men, took the stand over the searing six-week trial to describe sexual humiliation and violence.

After two days of deliberation, the jury found Kelly guilty on all the charges he was facing.

He is due to be sentenced on 4 May, and faces decades behind bars.

Prosecutors accused Kelly of using his fame and fortune to lure in victims with promises to help their musical careers. Several of his victims testified that they were underage when he sexually abused them.

Demetrius Smith said he paid $500 (£367) for an ID used by Mr Kelly, then 27, to wed Aaliyah, who was under age.

Mr Smith was giving evidence after he was granted immunity from prosecution.

Mr Kelly is on trial accused of sexual abuse, racketeering and bribery. He has denied the charges.

Speaking at the singer's trial on Friday in Brooklyn, New York, Mr Smith said the decision to obtain the document was made by Mr Kelly's "associates" after Aaliyah had said she was pregnant.

Some of the allegations made against the singer - whose full name is Robert Sylvester Kelly - date back more than 20 years.

Mr Kelly faces charges that he was the ringleader of a two-decade scheme where he recruited women and underage girls for sex.

There are said to be 13 charges against the singer, including child abuse images and obstruction of justice, according to the US Attorney's Office in Chicago.

The 52-year-old was arrested by NYPD and Homeland Security officials.

He's already pleaded not guilty to more than 20 sexual offences.

The new counts, unveiled last week in an indictment by a Cook County grand jury, involve alleged abuse of a victim between the ages of 13-16, according to documents posted on the Chicago Sun-Times' website.

The allegations centre on someone identified only as J.P., with no other details provided. The alleged crimes allegedly took place between May 2009 and January 2010.

Kelly, 52, could face up to 30 years in prison if convicted on the new charges.

Carter, who was once Kelly's hairdresser, claims the R&B star tried to force her into oral sex in 2003. When she resisted, he allegedly masturbated and spat in her face.

Kelly has consistently denied all the charges against him.

Carter, who was 24 at the time of the alleged attack, said she had decided to speak out after watching Kelly's explosive TV interview with Gayle King, in which he tearfully claimed his accusers were "trying to kill" him.

R Kelly released from jail after mystery benefactor pays bail

The performer, 52, was arrested on Wednesday over the unpaid support for three children he has with Andrea Lee. The Cook County Sheriff's Office had said he would have to pay the full amount to be freed.

Sam Randall, a spokesman for the sheriff's office, said in a phone interview on Saturday that the source of the payment was unclear, noting that the name section of the bond slip was left blank.

"Anonymity in this situation is pretty rare," Mr Randall said. "Typically that section of the form is filled out."

Earlier on Monday he pleaded not guilty to 10 charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse against four women, three of whom were minors at the time.

The 52-year-old, dressed in a blue coat, did not speak to media as he was escorted from jail by his lawyer.

He had turned himself in to police on Friday and spent the weekend in jail.

The singer has faced decades of sexual abuse claims without being convicted, and has denied all previous allegations.

It comes after the broadcast of a new documentary about Kelly, which detailed allegations of sexual and physical abuse against women and underage girls, spanning several decades.

Gaga called the stories "horrifying" and "indefensible", adding: "I stand behind these women 1000%".

Kelly has denied all the allegations.

His lawyer also dismissed the documentary as "another round of stories" being used to "fill reality TV time".
