Prince Charles leads Jubilee tributes to 'remarkable' Queen

Prince Charles welcomed his mother's wish that Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, be known as Queen Consort when he becomes King.

He said he and his wife were "deeply conscious of the honour".

The Queen is the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, and is spending the day privately.

In a message marking the 70th anniversary of her reign, the Queen said it was her "sincere wish" that Camilla would have that title.

Leaders of the Commonwealth have been discussing the issue at a meeting behind closed doors at Windsor Castle.

The head role is non-hereditary so is not automatically passed on when the Queen dies, with suggestions it might have rotated among the 53 leaders.

In a statement, the leaders said they "recognise the role of the Queen in championing the Commonwealth and its people".

He will tour the old town of Amatrice on Sunday with mayor Sergio Pirozzi who said after the disaster: "The town isn't here any more."

Prince Charles will visit a former school which houses emergency services and reconstruction staff and will lay a wreath at a memorial in the grounds.

The magnitude-6.2 quake struck on 24 August last year, killing 297 people.
