PNG 40th Independence

All seats at the outer and grand stand have been taken up.

 Some who paid for tickets and could not get a seat have resorted to sitting on steps below the outterstand areas.

About some hundreds are still outside the vicinity of the stadium at the Wards road.

Others who were unsuccessful in purchasing a ticket have resorted to handing around the stadium and Vision City to at least hear the live performance from inside the stadium.

There will be no celebrations in the Kandep electorate commemorating PNG’s 40th Independence anniversary.

Local MP and Opposition leader, Don Polye said his electorate which has been hit by El Nino is currently looking for food to eat.

Kandep was hit hard by the El Nino where the food crops were destroyed by drought and frost.

"How can we hold celebration when my people are hungry," he said.

Meanwhile efforts to deliver relief supplies are ongoing.
