U.S. gifts PNGDF with over K15m worth of equipment

He was received by a half guard on the Parade Grounds and then proceeded to the Kumul Leadership Centre for a presentation of personal protective equipment (PPE).

It was a significant ceremony, signifying the support of the Indo-Pacific Command (U.S. INDOPACOM) at the cost of $5.4 million USD (over K15 million).

Admiral Aquino handed over the PPE to PNG Chief of Defence Force, Major General Mark Goina.

PPE distributed to communities

The personal protective equipment (PPE) are being distributed by Oil Search Foundation across hospitals and medical clinics in consultation with the National Department of Health and Provincial Health Authorities in Hela, Southern Highlands and Gulf Province. This assistance complements the work the Company medical services team and Oil Search Foundation are already providing in these areas.

The Papua New Guinea Red Cross Society (PNGRCS) together with its movement partners, the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), gave the items to help protect front line health workers and facilitate them in one of their challenging tasks.
