Permanent Parliamentary Committee on Law and Order

Funding a challenge for law enforcers

On the second day, they consulted with local law enforcers – the Royal PNG Constabulary, the PNG Defence Force and Correctional Services in Morobe Province.

Committee Chairman and Member for Koroba/Lake Kopiago, William Bando, queried the agencies on the breakdown of Law and Order services in the region and encouraged them to explain in detail the issues.

Bando said government funding although allocated, gets lost in the system.

Momase Law & Order consultations

The committee met with community leaders from within Lae City's settlements, and ward counsellors from Morobe Province who aired their views on growing unemployment-related issues forcing the youth to turn to crime.

They appealed to committee members to enforce tougher laws on offenders, and furthermore, suggested they get the youth involved in agricultural activities.

The public consultations were prompted by the growing law and order issues in the country.
