PNG deepens trading arrangements with EU, ACP

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Rimbink Pato, who attended the ACP-EU Joint Ministerial Trade Meeting in Brussels, Belgium, on 26 October, signed the ACP Administrative Cooperation Agreement (ACA).

This makes it possible for PNG to enter into intra-ACP trade relations with the cumulation of the rules of origin.

Under this WTO multilateral trading rule, countries within the same Trade Agreement region could cumulate rules of origin.

Newest landmark building complete

It will be opened on October 18th by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill.

“O’Neill approached Jim Fitzpatrick Architects (JFA) in October 2016, to design an iconic building specifically for the APEC summit meetings to be held in Port Moresby in November this year,” said JFA in a statement.

The building, named APEC Haus, needed to provide the PNG Government with a notable facility of international standard, to host the world leaders from 21 of the largest economies as they gather to promote free trade throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

Temporary suspension on visa on arrival

This was announced by Chief Migration Officer, Solomon Kantha, to all commercial airlines that travel in PNG airspace.

The ban will be in place for a month.

In a circular notice on October 12th to Air Niugini, PNG Air, Qantas, Philippine Airlines and Virgin Australia, the Chief Migration Officer said the temporary suspension of visa on arrival applies to all passports and nationalities.

The temporary ban commences from 30th October 2018 to 30 November 2018.

Best of mates off field: Minister

Assistant Minister for International Development and the Pacific, Anne Ruston, said a mutual love for sport strengthens our two nations’ bilateral ties.

PNG brothers star against Tonga

Originally from the beautiful Madang province, Jonathan and Abraham grew up in a family devoted to football.

Their father is a coach at the Madang football club in the semi-professional PNG National Soccer League (NSL).

Madang is a province known for producing some of PNG’s top footballers including the Komolong brothers, Alwin and Felix and former Lae City Dwellers striker Raymond Gunemba.

The province is the most football-obsessed region in the Melanesian nation.

PNG U19 delivers impressive performance

Despite going up against a team that consist of a few A League players, PNG gave its best.

It was in the 30th minute when Jonathan Allen scored the first goal for PNG but Manurewa bounced back and equalized before half time.

In the second half, substitute Abraham Allen scored PNG’s second to put them in the lead.

However, Manurewa had a couple of tricks up their sleeves with a come-from-behind to equalize and then register its third goal in the 88th minute.
