Simberi observes National Mine Safety Week

NMSW kick started with an official opening on Monday, April 24 and continued with a range of activities including sports, noticeboard competition, booth set up, drawing competition for local school students, and familiarization tour of an Articulated Dump Truck (ADT).

Health and Safety Manager, Leo Kola, shared the theme for the event which was ‘Mobile Equipment Safety’.

Students excited and inspired by mine visit

As part of the 2017 National Mine Safety Week, local school Zuen Christian Academy was invited for the first time to participate in the program.

Jabez Totsik, a 12-year old Lihirian and a grade four student said he was excited to see the pit at the mine area for the first time on Thursday. 

“I learnt many things during the tour and I will share my experience with my friends and family, as many of them might never get the chance to see the pit,” he said.

Totsik said the tour has inspired him to pursue a career in engineering.
