The second quarter was dominated by Singapore, with the home team overpowering their rivals through solid defensive play.

On Wednesday evening Sri Lanka took the courts in one thing in mind, to halt PNG’s winning streak. However, Sri Lanka fell short, as PNG once again impressed beating Sri Lanka 67-51.

The new-look PNG Pepes team is taking the courts by storm determined to improve their standing after they finished last at the Pacific Netball Series in Australia, the country’s governing body for the sport, Netball PNG, made a lot of changes to its coaching staff and its players.

PNG Pepes undefeated

There were many intense matchups on the third day of the tournament as host Singapore went the distance against a resilient Canadian team, Sri Lanka secured their first victory of the week, and PNG continued its dominance.

In the day’s second game, PNG Pepes delivered a dominant performance against the Singapore A team to make it three wins out of three for the week. Singapore A is a development side.

The first three quarters belonged to PNG as they dictated the pace of the game, winning each quarter by six goals, resulting in a 45-23 lead.

Pepes record second win

It was a dominant display right from the start from the PNG side, capturing the first quarter 14-8. However, the unranked Canadian team improved in the second quarter, winning 13-12 to narrow the deficit to five goals.

At half time PNG Pepes raced ahead with a close margin 26-21.

The second half belonged to the Pepes, who demonstrated an overall solid performance, resulting in an 18-goal victory over Canada 52-34.

PNG Pepes defeats Singapore

On Sunday 22nd October, the Mirxes Nations Cup kicked off with an exhilarating showdown between Singapore and PNG on Sunday 22nd October, with the PNG Pepes winning by just two goals 52-50.

The first 15 minutes of the game were a back-and-forth battle, with the Pepes holding a slim lead at the end of first quarter 13-12. A strong performance in the second quarter allowed PNG to stretch their lead to seven goals at one point in the quarter. At halftime, Pepes extended their lead with a 29-24 score line.

Pepes attend Singapore tournament

The team departed yesterday for Singapore to attend the Mirxes Nations Cup. This tournament should help the team get the momentum going before facing their Pacific counterparts in Solomon Islands, what is expected to be a show of class.

Following the event’s successful comeback last year, the stage is set for a fascinating six-day netball showcase at the OCBC Arena. Featuring a round-robin format, 6 teams from around the world will compete for the Mirxes Nations Cup trophy.
