The event was hosted at the Lamana Q Club in Port Moresby on Sunday.

Ovia looked set for a clean sweep when he won the first three frames – 54-42, 66-24, 49-28 – convincingly.

English showed fight to win the 4th frame 64-44.

But Ovia put the result beyond doubt with a 58-34 win in the 5th frame to claim the title.

In the semi-finals played earlier, Ovia beat last year’s runner up Gavera Rima 3-0 in the best of five frames, while English defeated seasoned Francis Theseria in a thrilling 3-2 win.

Tournament director Joey Chan said the round robin matches started on Wednesday and were played over the best of three frames.

The final 16 will be play in the quarter finals today.

Chan said the semi-finals will be played at 11am on Sunday and the two winners will meet in the grand final at 3pm at the Lamana Q Club.

A closing ceremony will be held at 7pm following the grand final.

Meanwhile, nominations and registrations for the Major Titles are slowly coming in.
