Independence Message

A time to reflect

“It is a time to reflect on our past and be grateful for the countless blessings, to consciously repent, reconcile, and to build a better future that we envision together: A future of hope, peace, and prosperity for people of Central Province and Papua New Guinea.”

Governor Peter says citizens must celebrate the country’s successes and must take responsibility for the failures.

Polye blames governments for country’s mismanagement

Polye further blamed the present governments for adding more misery to the nation’s compounding problems.

In his independence message, Polye said the country’s social indicators are some of the worst in the region and in the Asia Pacific.

“We have the biggest economy and we are the envy of many nations yet these huge revenue returns do not reflect in our rural areas.”

He said despite having a number of mines and oil fields apart from revenue from agricultural and fishery sectors, this has failed to turn the country around.

Christians told to stand together in pray

Chairman of the Body of Christ Inc Pastor Joseph Walters made this call as part of his Independence message.

Pastor Walters outlined the need for Christians to gather in masses and celebrate in their faith and prayer for the country.

Walters says people must spare a moment to offer prayer and give thanks to God for his love and guidance for PNG as a young country.

In Port Moresby Walters outlined the Christian concert and crusade underway at Unagi oval which will lead through to the Bible procession that will take place on Wednesday morning.
