FIFA U20 World Cup 2016

In the four matches to be played this afternoon, upsets and heart breaks could complete the final pool matches.

Group C leaders USA will challenge the unpredictable Ghana side, and New Zealand and France to battle it out, all playing for survival.

The final results will affect the final group standing.

In the point’s leader, USA is on 4 points, New Zealand 3, France 2 and Ghana 1.      

In Group D, Korea Republic and Mexico will be praying the soccer gods stay by their sides.

Brazil, the team to play the host team PNG in the second game of the first day will touch down from Singapore at 04:50hrs (4:50am) as the second team to arrive in the country.

Team Korea Republic is expected to arrive 40 minutes later  on PX 019 from Hong Kong and will be the third football team to arrive in the country.

Meanwhile, on the same afternoon the Papua New Guinea Women’s team will return from their New Zealand trials via Brisbane on VA 189  at 13:05hrs (1:30pm).

The FIFA U20 World Cup is scheduled for November 13 to December 3 this year.

The squad will move into Goroka next month for the U20 National Team selection process.

PNG Football Association congratulated the 28 players in a statement for being selected.

Ten of the 28 players were part of the senior side that lost to New Zealand in the first leg of the Olympic Qualifier at the PNGFA Academy in Lae recently.

The World Cup is only 10 months away and PNGFA stated that we are set and ready to host the other 15 nations that will be here for the tournament.

The World Cup will run from 28 Oct-16 Nov in Port Moresby with 16 nations taking part.

The government has budgeted K10 million for the preparation for the FIFA World Cup.

All venues,  the National Rugby League stadium, Sir Hubert Murray stadium, the Sir John Guise stadium, the Bisini Grounds plus schools are being upgraded to FIFA standards.
