Magistrate concerned over cases of fights

A magistrate who had been dealing with those cases today said in court that people don’t realise their actions until they are arrested or sent to Bomana.

Magistrate Mariestella Painap said most women do not think of their children’s welfare when they fight over their husbands with other women.

“Fights over men, women every day I see and hear those cases every day and I am tired of fight cases coming to court. We are not fighting over good things,” she said in court when sentencing a woman today.

Tapini woman denies knowledge of possessing dangerous drugs

The woman, Mary Morris of Lapaula village, Tapini district in the Central province, appeared at the Boroko District Court on Wednesday for being in possession of dangerous drugs.

She was arrested following a drug bust by police at her Two-Mile residence in Port Moresby on Oct 5, following a tip-off.

Three 10kg bags of compressed marijuana were discovered in her residence by police after they received information of five 10kg bags.

Cop on good behaviour bond

 The Boroko District Court in handing down its sentence against John Pll today warned him not to consume any alcoholic substance during the six-month period as alcohol was the root cause of his case in court.

“I hope that the sentencing I make today will help you become a better person, a better police officer and a better husband and father to your family,” Magistrate Mariestella Painap told Pll.

Court fines Yule Island man K150 for assault

 Ernest Haurama, 31-years of age, appeared before Magistrate Mariestella Painap today where he pleaded guilty to swearing at his former partner and assaulting her.

The court was told that the incident took place at Tokarara where he used vulgar language against the woman and her family.

Haurama admitted to the facts stated in the police documents before court but said he was provoked by the complainant, adding he also received his share of harassment by the woman’s family members.
