PNG and Australia to improve safety at sea

The new arrangement will see Australia provide support to NMSA to improve PNG’s compliance with international maritime safety obligations.

The arrangement will support safety for small craft and PNG’s maritime legislative framework. And also support NMSA to explore ways to more effectively and efficiently undertake ship inspections to improve regulatory oversight of commercial shipping.

All activities under the arrangement will be managed and implemented jointly and align with the Government of Papua New Guinea’s priorities.

Delighted to stand before hundreds of people with disabilities to commemorate their day with sports partners, education programing officer Bervelynne Wangillen, representing the Australian High Commission, said sports plays an important role in communities.

It makes sure that people of all abilities can be active, confident and valued as capable members of their communities.

​ Chinese medical advisers deployed to PMGH

The first two short-term advisers from China are Dr Li Jin of Shandong Institute of Parasitic Diseases and Dr Liu Hui of Yunnan Institute of Parasitic Disease.

They will be based at the Central Public Health Laboratory (CPHL) at Port Moresby General Hospital for two and a half months working alongside their Papua New Guinea counterpart and CPHL’s Director, Dr Everlyn Lavu.

Dr Jin will take up the role of National Reference Laboratory Adviser and Dr Hui as the Laboratory Strengthening (External Quality Assurance).

PHDC sponsors 2016 literary competition

This is a Literary Competition open to all citizens of Papua New Guinea, of all ages, and is a way for all Papua New Guineans to express themselves in writing, whether it be in poetry, short stories or arts (illustrations).

There are nine categories in the competition and these are; short stories, poetry, essay and journalism, heritage writing, book of the year, illustrations, writing for children and Women in Writing. Emerging young writer is a new category that was added this year

AFL program receive boost from Australia HC

Australian Football League Papua New Guinea (AFL PNG) has received additional sporting equipment to boost its sports outreach program in the country.

Eleven provincial centres will receive footballs, jerseys and training equipment donated from Australia to help improve youth participation and inclusive training for people living with disability.

The Australia High Commission provided funding for the shipment of the equipment from Brisbane, Australia to Port Moresby through a Direct Aid Program grant.

Manus to get new K15m police complex

Costing up to K15 million, in partnership with the Australian Government, the RPNGC Provincial Police Headquarters and Lorengau Police Station’s aim is to increase safe access to law and justice services and support police in making communities safer.

Speaking on behalf of Manus Governor Charlie Benjamin was Deputy Governor John Popot, who says this new police station will boost police morale. It will also instill respect and appreciation from the public for police work within Lorengau.
