Soccer teams fined

Southern Strikers FC have been fined K1,200 and FC Morobe Wawens K1,400 for player violence during the round four NSL match over the weekend in Port Moresby.

This was confirmed by the PNG Football Association who explained that for every red card, a player is fined K1,000 and K200 for every yellow card.

Tempers flared during the second half of the match resulting in several punches being exchanged in stoppage time.

Both teams paid the price with match referee, Mairi Noni, showing Strikers’ Laventine Munou and FC Morobe’s Jason Farrock red cards.

Yellow cards were also given to players from both sides - Jaggen Nalu from Strikers and FC Morobe’s Bernard Purari and Ferdahlas Namuesi.

Coach of FC Morobe Wawens, Peter Seske, said the club will be appealing the decision, while coach of Southern Strikers FC, Wesley Waiwai, said the club has accepted the decision made by the referee on the day and the PNGFA.
