“We’re really happy with the boys for giving us this win after two losses. We needed this win, and they gave it to us.

“They’ve put smiles on all our faces.”

FC Morobe dominated the first half and could have the put the game away but blew several chances to score.

“We had three to four chances of scoring goals. The boys were supposed to score those goals. But we worked hard in the second half and achieved a good result.”

He added there is plenty to improve on at training.

“We have FC Momase next weekend in Port Moresby and are gearing up to play them.

FC Morobe edge Besta

Besta had all the possession in the opening minutes and looked the more dangerous side.

However, FC Morobe survived this and immediately went on the counter-attack.

Several visits to their opponents proved fruitless, but all the momentum was now with FC Morobe.

But, it was Besta who struck first from a corner that found the head of Irenus Wibena to put his side in front two minutes out from the break.

FC Morobe equalized early in the second half in much similar fashion after Alu Awi headed one past the keeper.

Soccer teams fined

This was confirmed by the PNG Football Association who explained that for every red card, a player is fined K1,000 and K200 for every yellow card.

Tempers flared during the second half of the match resulting in several punches being exchanged in stoppage time.

Both teams paid the price with match referee, Mairi Noni, showing Strikers’ Laventine Munou and FC Morobe’s Jason Farrock red cards.

Yellow cards were also given to players from both sides - Jaggen Nalu from Strikers and FC Morobe’s Bernard Purari and Ferdahlas Namuesi.
