Govt should help repair health facilities – Nurse

Komperi Health Centre is in the Eastern Highlands Province and it serves 21 villages and about 10, 000 patients.

It has a nursing officer and three community health workers.

The general patient building was well constructed however the general patients ward was a typical highlands round house.

It was built with a mixture of processed building materials and bush materials.  Inside there were four beds and a fire place in the middle.

A nurse there says they experience more deaths as a result of cold and poor ventilation.

He told officers of the Auditor General’s Office who were carrying out an assessment of church run health facilities that if the government was serious they would help maintain facilities.

Goroka is one of the five provinces visited by the AGO in 2014 as it carried out its performance audit on church run health institutions.
