PNG LNG Kumuls and Hunters coach Michael Marum, NRL manager and former PNG Orchids captain, Cathy Neap, and Hunters players William Mone from Hela and Stanton Albert from Southern Highlands spent a day in Komo, providing support and encouragement to young men and women who have reinvigorated rugby league to promote peace and unity in their community.

This was conveyed to 50 participants, including coaches, trainers and physiotherapists who attended the recent Digicel Cup Coaches Conference in Port Moresby.

Participants from the 12 Digicel Cup rugby league teams gathered in Port Moresby for a two-day coaching conference from the 21st – 22nd  February.

Digicel PNG Senior Vice President, Lorna McPherson, said: “Congratulations to everyone involved in making the conference a success, especially the Chairman of PNGNRLC Adrian Chow and Competition Manager Stanley Hondina. 

The event, facilitated by the Lihir International Primary School, attracted 11 teams across local schools last year, with an increased number of girls who participated under the girls division.

Kul Destiny Primary School girls coach, Rachel Daniel, who had participated with her girls’ team, said ‘women in rugby league’ in New Ireland was now growing rapidly, describing it as a ‘positive sign’.
