Leigh snap up Papua New Guinea star

The 27-year-old centre or winger has made almost 100 NRL appearances for Sydney Roosters, Gold Coast Titans, St George Illawarra Dragons, North Queensland Cowboys and Cronulla Sharks.

Macdonald has won nine caps for his native Papua New Guinea. He is hoping to play in his World Cup next autumn.

Macdonald said: “I’m super excited to have signed for Leigh Centurions and I can’t wait to get over and play.

“I’ve heard such a lot of good things about the club and the community and all the people I’ve spoken to at the club have been really friendly and welcoming.

'Biggest and best': World Cup delay worth the wait

RLWC2021 organisers have announced new dates and some venue changes for the rescheduled tournament, which will conclude with the men’s and women’s finals at Old Trafford on November 19 and the wheelchair final also in Manchester on November 18.

Australia’s opening game against Fiji on October 15 has been shifted to Leeds from Hull, which will instead now host New Zealand’s second match against Jamaica on October 22, while a quarter-final initially set down for Anfield has been moved to Wigan.

NRL boss Peter V’landys backs push for Kenya to become rugby league’s next market

And Brook Tennant has claimed the move would instantly open another player pathway for NRL clubs outside of PNG, England, the Pacific and New Zealand.

“Rugby league needs a bigger pool and Kenya has the greatest sportspeople in the world. Their endurance, their ability to train, their ability to take lessons – they are great soldiers,” Tennant said.

Do Or Die Looms

After a 11 grueling weeks of rugby league action the stage is set for the top 6 teams to battle on for this year's ultimate prize, the Digicel Cup.

While Tigers (1st) and Muruks (2nd) take the weekend off, the fight continues between Rabaul Gurias and Waghi Tumbe, and POM Vipers vs Hela Wigmen in do or die situation.

Thanks, Jimmy: Favourite rugby league larrikin Maloney retires

Maloney posted the news on his social media channels on Tuesday (AEST) and he will hang up the boots and depart Catalans where he has spent the past two years.

“The time has come to hang up the boots from professional footy,” Maloney wrote.

“It’s been one hell of a ride and I’ve loved every minute of it. Thanks to everyone who has played a part in my career along the way, most importantly my beautiful wife Jess Maloney who has been there from the start.”

Round 9 recorded close scores

With the top 6 placings almost decided and two rounds remaining, there’s a late surge from the outsiders to knockoff the top teams and give themselves a chance.

While the 12 franchise teams in the 2021 Digicel Cup competition took to the field on Sunday to rally their chances of making the final cut before the regular season ends, a number of teams had to dig deep in order to keep their finals hopes alive.

Troy Grant

He replaces Greg Barclay who will remain on the Board as an independent director, having stood down in to his recent appointment as Chairman of the International Cricket Council.

Rugby League has been a central part of his entire life as a ball-boy, player, junior coach, referee and League administrator.

Speaking on his appointment Grant said he felt proud and privileged to become the Chair of International Rugby League, especially as the fraternity looked forward to the excitement of the World Cup later in the year.

RTS heroics help secure Warriors win

The home side played much of the game with only one healthy interchange player after Joe Tapine (ankle), Ryan James and Sebastian Kris (both head injury assessments) were ruled out.

And they still found some energy to try to steal the victory when Jordan Rapana was stretching out for the corner with only seconds left on the clock. Tuivasa-Sheck's reach was that little bit longer, knocking the ball from the winger's grasp.

League's Oceania Cup postponed

The series, which was to include a much-anticipated rematch between Tonga and New Zealand and other tests involving Samoa, PNG and the Cook Islands was originally scheduled for June.

However the Asia Pacific Rugby League Confederation said it was now looking at delivering fixtures in October and November.

Deputy Chair Greg Peters said the unprecedented measures had to be taken for the safety and well-being of players, staff and supporters.

Ricky refuses to take credit for Papalii's form

The saying goes that behind every good man is an even better woman and Stuart believes Masepa Papalii is that someone.

The pair were sweethearts for several years before tying the knot in late 2018. Season 2019 not only saw Papalii shift from lock to front row, it gave the 27-year-old a third Mal Meninga Medal (for the Raiders' best player) in four years.

Papalii scored six tries, made 61 tackle busts, 31 off-loads, ran for 3830 metres at an average just shy of 150 in each of his 26 games.
