Australia tops the World Rankings

Two new nations are in the list for the first time with the inclusion of Thailand and Uruguay, taking the total to 42 and reflecting the greater number of sanctioned internationals being played globally.

Leilani Latu’s last-gasp try for Tonga to beat Fiji 26-24 in last week’s Pacific triple-header saw them move up one rung on the ladder, whilst the biggest gainers are Hungary who rise five places to 33rd.

League world rankings: NZ tops

The Four Nations tournament, to be played in the UK next autumn, will offer England, Australia and New Zealand the opportunity of going in to the 2017 World Cup as the number one ranked nation, a position currently held by the Kiwis.
