The incident occurred as Lochte was receiving one of the judge's critique of his dance routine.

ABC News reported that two men got on the ballroom dance floor and at least four other people yelled anti-Lochte chants.

Although the show was live, the actual incident was not shown on camera by ABC.

Lochte alleged that he was robbed at gunpoint along with United States team-mates Gunnar Bentz, Jack Conger and Jimmy Feigen at a petrol station after attending a party in Brazil last month.

The 32-year-old was charged with making a false statement after admitting he had "over-exaggerated" his story and apologised for his "immature behaviour".

Lochte was among four United States swimmers who initially claimed they had been robbed at gunpoint when returning to the Olympic Village, before closed circuit television footage emerged of the men vandalising a petrol station following a night out.

The incident provoked outrage here in Brazil, as well as negative reactions across the world.

Syneron-Candela, owner of Gentle Laser Hair Removal, released a statement saying the company wound end its partnership with the athlete, adding, "We hold our employees to high standards, and we expect the same of our business partners."

Earlier Monday, Ralph Lauren executives stated their company's contract with Lochte was for the 2016 Rio Olympics only, and would not be renewed. "Ralph Lauren continues to sponsor the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Team and the values that its athletes embody."

The Team USA swimmer sat down with NBC's Matt Lauer for his first television interview since his initial robbery claim was proven false to shed even more light on what happened.

The 20-year-old's lengthy account paints Ryan Lochte as the aggressor in the situation that unfolded around 6 a.m. Sunday after the four swimmers stopped at a gas station to use the restroom following a party in Rio. While statements from Brazilian police have said the swimmers broke down a door at the gas station and urinated inside it, Bentz's story is a bit different. It reads in part:

News has learned that the US Olympian swimmer, who has been knee-deep in international troubles following an alleged robbery in Rio during the Olympics, has sought out a crisis manager to take the lead in handling the aftermath on this matter, and it just so happens to be the former crisis manager of none other than Justin Bieber.

At the very least, he appears to have stretched the truth a bit. He allegedly fabricated a story — or half a story — to get himself and his U.S. teammates out of a bad situation and cover up a stupid mistake.
