Rabaul society launches 2018 Frangipani Festival

The Rabaul Historical Society/ Frangipani Festival Committee hopes to bring an awareness to the community to dispose of their plastic responsibly. 

“To educate our children and the community that plastic on our roads end up in our oceans and is killing our fish and suffocating our reefs,” said the committee.

“This cannot continue if we want a sustainable fishing/food future or just as importantly a tourism industry.

​Rabaul society to host ‘Montevideo Maru’ anniversary

A memorial dusk service will be held on the day of its departure from Rabaul 75 years ago - 29th June 1942 at the Montevideo Maru Memorial, Rabaul Town foreshore.

1053 Australian soldiers and civilians disappeared without trace when the Japanese transport ‘hellship’ Montevideo Maru was torpedoed by an American submarine off the Philippines coast in 1942.
