Latest police sting hauls 22 mustard bags

Police have hauled in 22 bags belonging to different passengers who have been caught with the cargo as part of their luggage.

Currently the Airport Station Commander Robert Wane is addressing the smugglers who have been brought in for questioning.

An Air Niugini plane arrived from Lae with PSC Wane saying he will be officially notifying the airline through his office.

He said he will also be taking the matter  to the NCDC office for them take  appropriate action against  the airline company.

Turi facing challenge of police ill-discipline

This negligence of discipline has occurred from a lack of command and control over time.

NCD Metropolitan Police Commander Ben Turi says that the serious gap in discipline and command over the past 8 to 10 years in the Port Moresby has seen  no commander carrying out disciplinary actions on police officers of questionable conduct.

Turi says this has seen over time  developed an environment of negligence which is a major challenge for his command.

Police boss vow to handle police abuse complaints

In a media brief this afternoon, he challenged media to help him by facilitating for complaints to come to his office so that he can deal with them.

He mentioned last night’s (9th January) arrest of a police woman in relation to the Condom case was an example of evidence needed by police to act fast and solve a case.

Kalaut says that with the help of the victim herself, police went back and checked the duty roster once they confirmed the date of the incident.

Policeman charged with sexual penetration of a child

NCD Metropolitan police commander Ben Turi tells PNG Loop that this case took place at about 9pm on New Years day at Tokam barracks, Waigani.

He says that the probationary constable allegedly walked to the victim’s house next to where he lives and lured her to the buai market at the barracks gate.

Reports state that the suspect after returning from the market forced the 13 year old girl into his room and forcefully penetrated her.

Police commander phone numbers made public for complaints

Turi tells PNG Loop that he had had a meeting with all his police station commanders who have been advised that their numbers will now be made public so that the public in their areas of operation can start calling in with police issues.

Even with matters to do with police discipline, Turi says that the public must ring the station commanders or the Moresby Superintendent of Operations Philip Kulaum or himself.

Vision City staff back on job, shoppers still outside

Shoppers however are being advised that the main supermarket will not be opened until after lunch.

A security officer has told PNG Loop that for now management will allow for the stalls and smaller outlets to open with just the main store shut down.

Police would not comment, however a mobile squad officer has said that they made two clean sweeps of the store area but could not locate anything or anyone suspicious.

 People are congregating outside the main entrance of the store waiting to go back into the store.

Police bust men with drugs

Aged 34 from the Hela province, the suspect was intercepted this morning in front of the Freeway Motors car lot near the Big Rooster 4 mile area.

Police said the man had 5kg of marijuana and had previously been picked up but escaped from custody on similar charges in 2011.

He is now detained at Boroko.

In a separate incident,  Hohola police caught and arrested a youth from Hula who was selling drugs near the park adjacent to RH Hyper mart.

Police in Port Moresby are looking into allegations of another school student rape.

The incident occurred on Wednesday September 30th between 2pm and 3pm at the UPNG area.

Police say it has been alleged a grade 11 male student lured a female student into the bushes near the field at the University of Papua New Guinea and raped her. .

Police identified both the victim and the suspects attend the same secondary school.

No arrest have been made.

Meantime, NCD Metropolitan police commander Ben Turi has urged parents and guardians to be mindful of the type of company that their children keep.

Man slashed with knife while sleeping

The incident occurred on Saturday the 3rd October at Makana, 9 Mile.

Police report that the victim was reportedly attacked when he was asleep in his room.

The victim, Peter Aki 30 year old of Kundus Village, Ambum, Enga Province was allegedly chopped by suspect Goi Peter with a bush knife.

Police reports say that the victim sustained multiple cuts on his face as a result and was rushed to the Port Moresby General Hospital for medical attention.

Meantime, the matter was reported to police however no arrests have been made.
