Developing the Fashion Industry in Partnership with the Government

Director Janet Sios said this is for the benefit of the designers and furthermore impact PNG’s Small to Medium Enterprise sector.

Sios said at the moment, they are in talks with the government and also trying to get other influential parties on board.

Sios stressed the importance of their relationship with the Department of Trade and Industry.

Committee to showcase PNG’s traditional designs to global community

The Mineral Resources Development Company (MRDC) backed this idea with the presentation of a K25,000 cheque to the PNGFW organising committee recently. This was to host PNG’s first ever Fashion Week Event.

During the cheque presentation, MRDC’s general manager for commercial, Clifford Kasi, said: “We must provide a platform to empower the creative efforts of our local designers and artists and set them on the right path in their journey to create beautiful garments, drawing their inspirations from the vast diverse cultural heritage of PNG”.

MRDC recognises potential of PNG’s fashion industry

The Mineral Resources Development Company (MRDC) this week presented a K25,000 cheque to the PNG Fashion Week (PNGFW) organising committee to host PNG’s first ever Fashion Week Event.

The PNGFW Event provides a platform for PNG designers to introduce and promote their work and also aims to help upcoming designers enhance their skills and grow into an established designer with credibility and recognition.

MRDC’s general manager for commercial, Clifford Kasi, said the event was a brilliant initiative to support.
