Ooh, aah Su'A: Dumped by Bunnies, Jaydn primed to fire for Maroons

And Su'A reckons he can thank the man who dropped him from NRL duty - Rabbitohs mentor Wayne Bennett - for ensuring he gets the chance to don the Maroons jersey again.

The South Sydney enforcer featured in all three games of Queensland's against the odds 2-1 Origin series upset win over NSW last year.

But Su'A admitted he thought he was at long odds to retain his Maroons jersey after being overlooked by Bennett for South Sydney's NRL win over Parramatta on Saturday.

Grant gives Mahoney No.1 nod but hopes to deliver one-two punch

But Grant is still tipped to make his State of Origin starting debut in the Maroons pack ahead of Mahoney in next week's series opener in Townsville after confirming he had overcome a hamstring niggle.

Former Maroons skipper and legendary No.9 Smith - a veteran of a record 42 Origins - raised eyebrows when he overlooked ex-Storm teammate Grant and rated 23-year-old Mahoney as his first-choice Queensland hooker ahead of June 9's Origin I.

Tyson's fury: Blues star out of Origin as Knights upset Manly

Considered a near certainty before the Blues side was named on Sunday night, Frizell was considered no chance of being fit for the June 9 series opener after limping off four minutes from full-time when his ankle was caught underneath him in a tackle.

The match review committee will also take a look at an incident involving Frizell on Monday in which he caught Martin Taupau with a high shot midway through the second half.

Maroons Origin team: Stars in doubt; Grant set to start ahead of Mahoney

Green on Monday selected Cameron Munster, Kalyn Ponga and Harry Grant in his 20-man squad despite the trio having not played any NRL games since round nine.

Grant has been named to start at hooker while Mahoney and fellow potential debutant Kyle Feldt have been listed on the extended bench in the team submitted to the NRL by midday on Monday under official guidelines.

Munster has battled a Lisfranc foot injury, Grant needs to overcome a hamstring strain and Ponga has struggled with a groin complaint and all three remain in doubt for the series opener next week.

Maroons Origin I predicted team: Munster boost; Stars in doubt but AJ's OK

In a great piece of news for Queensland, Cameron Munster was on Sunday cleared by Storm medical staff to enter camp for the Origin opener. There remains doubt over the availability of hooker Harry Grant, who has a hamstring injury although he told NRL.com this week he was sure he would be good to go by kick-off.

In another potential blow, AJ Brimson limped from the field with a knee injury during the second half of his side's match against Cronulla on Sunday.

NSW Origin team: Luai gets nod for Freddie's fresh-faced Blues

Mt Druitt-bred  livewires Jarome Luai and Brian To'o, as well as workhorse back-rower Liam Martin, have been named for their Blues debuts alongside Penrith co-captains Nathan Cleary and Isaah Yeo.

Luai's rise to the NSW five-eighth jersey means Jack Wighton will be the bench utility as Cleary and Luai reprise a halves partnership they first struck up as 15-year-olds in Penrith's junior system.

Fittler is leaning on his junior club's strong representation to help atone for their upset defeat at the hands of Queensland in what was dubbed the "unloseable" 2020 series.

Broncos repel latest raid to re-sign rising stars Robati and Cobbo

Brisbane has fended off rivals for the latest pair of in-demand rookies with young guns Teui Robati and Selwyn Cobbo signing new deals.

Both teenagers have earned upgrades from budget deals, with Robati a "shining light" according to coach Kevin Walters after his NRL debut in a heavy loss to Melbourne on Thursday night.

Grant: I'm fit for Origin but 'drama queen' Munster in doubt

While stressing his first priority is to get fit for Storm duty, Grant told NRL.com he'd love to get another chance in Maroon if named on Monday for the June 9 Ampol State of Origin series opener.

"If it was a Saturday or Sunday game I probably would have been sweet to go but just given the fact it's early in the weekend I've had to give it a miss," said Grant who sat out Melbourne's Thursday night win over Brisbane.

Haas unlikely for Origin as Milford struggles again

In a disastrous night for the Broncos highlighted by maligned playmaker Anthony Milford getting benched with 12 minutes to go after a dreadful game where his confidence appeared totally shot, an injury to Haas only compounded what's been a tough year for rookie Broncos coach Kevin Walters.

Walters confirmed after the game that Haas would almost certainly be unavailable for NSW selection on Sunday with an initial diagnosis that a medial ligament strain would keep him off the field for up to a month.

Moses, Matterson ink new deals to stay at Eels

The Eels announced Moses had re-signed with the club until at least the end of the 2024 season on Friday morning following weeks of speculation the 26-year-old was being chased by rival clubs.

Eels second-rower Ryan Matterson has also activated a 12-month contract extension to keep him in blue and gold for the 2022 NRL season.

"It's great news for the club and the two boys as well individually," Arthur said on Friday.
