Induction for ICT dept

Starting yesterday, the staff were introduced to legislation and policies that guide the public servants, specifically the Public Finance Management Act, Public Service Management Act and General Orders.

Deputy secretary of policy and emerging technology, Flierl Shongol, while opening the workshop yesterday, encouraged the participants to take the induction seriously and learn as much as they can.

“When you first get into an organisation, you must understand the culture, policy, and the rules and the procedures that govern the organisation,” he stated.

Government Depts Online Platforms

Minister for Information and Communication Technology, Timothy Masiu has announced the online publication of names of 59 government agencies, each with their official social media accounts.

He said due to the recent increase in fake social media accounts impersonating certain government departments, the ICT Department has taken stock of Government website, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Twitter accounts, and YouTube channels set up by all public agencies.

ICT Awaits K12.9m Funding

Minister for ICT, Timothy Masiu in a statement earlier this week highlighted that the Department has not received approved government funding for social media management since 2018.

He said: “A Social Media Task Force was established in 2018 with an endorsement of K12.8m to address misinformation. Funding was never made available for this despite funding requests through writing and requests incorporated in Budget Submissions, over the years.”
