Hagen resident expresses disappointment

The city and its surrounding resident areas had no organized celebrations by the responsible authorities of the province.

The Hagen Tee Grave Yard Ward 8 Community,  have expressed concerns that Hagen since the year 2000 has never fully celebrated the country’s independence anniversaries.

People were observed to be dressed in PNG colors just roaming around the streets like any other ordinary day.

3000 extra ballot papers burnt

Provincial logistics manager for 2017 Elections, Tom Kiap, clarified that the ballot papers were extras for Mul-Baiyer, Dei Open, Hagen and Tambul-Nebilyer electorates.

Kiap said after the distribution of ballot boxes during polling, the remaining were brought back and stored in a container.

He said he didn’t want to burn the ballot papers in an isolated manner but in the presence of officials.

He added that most of the ballot boxes brought back were those that were tampered with by the voters during polling.

Hagen man beats Sepik in Kerema over money

The suspect aged 34 years met the victim aged 45 and bashed him up yesterday afternoon.

The victim borrowed and accumulated money to a total of K2,000 from the Hagen loan shark but failed to meet the man to pay the money back and then went into hiding.

Gulf police commander Silas Wayagure says the man is currently at the Kerema police cells and will be meeting with the police.

The victim was reported to have sustained a black eye and two broken ribs.
