Investigation into NHC properties not completed

“There is an official internal investigation but I have not received a report as yet, when received will table in Parliament,” Prime Minister Peter O’Neill said.

He was responding to questions from Goroka MP Bire Kimisopa in Parliament during Question Time today.

Kimisopa asked if the Investigation into National Housing Corporation promised by the prime minister in 2016 had been completed.

PM O’Neill: Sale of NHC houses on hold

This followed concerns raised in Parliament yesterday by Goroka MP Bire Kimisopa of NHC controversial evictions of residents in Goroka.

Kimisopa told the House of how NHC is evicting long time public servants from their homes.

“It’s inhuman and illegal and cannot happen like that because a number of these citizens served in the public service for 20 to 30 years, and have paid fortnightly for 20-30 years.

Police Minister clarifies police ‘vetting’ process

Atiyafa made this comment following statements issued by Goroka MP Bire Kimisopa in Parliament on Wednesday over “rogue police”.

Kimisopa also questioned why cases have to be “vetted” by the Police Commissioner before any arrest is made.

“It is naïve and perhaps mischievous for the Member for Goroka to make such an inference,” said Atiyafa.

“To start off with, Mr Kimisopa should know that not all police investigations are sanctioned by the Police Commissioner and this vetting process is not a new creation by Police Commissioner Gari Baki.
