The bridges were destroyed in 2007 by Cyclone Guba, which caused widespread destruction within Oro Province.

The construction of these bridges has been funded by the Australian Government.

The bridges along the Oro Bay – Kokoda highway are Eroro, Girua, Double Cross and Kumusi.

He says all government institutions have collectively failed because they simply did not do their job to save lives.

Juffa criticized the Health Department for its failure to carry out awareness on the diseases that will be experienced as a result of droughts and said they also failed to boost rural health centres.

He says the Agriculture Department had also failed by not establishing drought resistant crops, so that people in rural areas would be more prepared.

The petition which was received by Oro Governor Gary Juffa calls for

• To raiseWest Papua human rights issues with other Cmmonwealth countries,

• To be a neutral mediator between Indonesia and West Papua to find a way for self-determination.

• For PNG government to support Vanuatu to sponsor a resolution at the Melanesian Spearhead Group Leaders (MSG) Summit for West Papua to be given observer status
