Oro Provincial government partners with PSTI

The machines and funding were given by Oro Governor Gary Juffa on Thursday during the school’s graduation.

In a partnership arrangement, the OPG shall pay a fee per month to the school for the school to help maintain the town fields and ovals and with town cleaning in the township of Popondetta.

OPG also promised that when the Business Arm of Oro was finally operational it would be partnering with the school to help build Oro Province.

Oro Governor spreads health awareness to schools

This was the message delivered by Governor Gary Juffa today at the Popondetta Skills Training Centre (PSTI) graduation.

More than 222 students graduated and was witnessed by parents, friends, observers, and invited guests.

“Refrain from poisoning your body and mind and refrain from the consumption of substances which deteriorate and attack your health.

“Rather, exercise your body and mind regularly consume traditional wholesome organic garden food and rest well.”

Juffa appalled by progress of lawyers’ investigation

Northern Governor Gary Juffa at the hearing on Wednesday said the matters relating to accusations made in July 2015 on an SBS report concerning lawyers Greg Sheppard and Harvey Maladina should be given immediate attention as it is a matter of public interest.

He told Vincent Mirupasi, the Chairman of the Lawyers Statutory Committee, that this matter should have been dealt with in a timely manner while it’s still fresh in the minds of the public when people are curious.

Juffa encourages students to strive and succeed in life

Those are the advice given by a vocal Governor for Oro Garry Juffa today when visiting the largest primary school in Northern Province, Popondetta Primary School.

Juffa visited the school after the students’ request that he should visit and look at the situation of overcrowding of students in the classrooms and the deteriorating conditions of the buildings.

He told students to not look at the situation and give up but to strive and achieve their dreams.

Oro to launch local newspaper

Executive officers from various companies, school children and the general public have all gathered to witness the launch. The local newspaper be named the ‘Northern Observer' will be launch by Governor Gary Juffa.

The Northern Observer will be a community newspaper to inform and promote good governance in the province is an initiative of the Oro Provincial Government.

Juffa seeks legal advice for misleading article

The story, titled "Mill closure causes job loss", appeared in The National newspaper on April 14 on page 5.

The story claimed that a timber mill had closed down and 500 jobs were affected because the Governor had failed to sign permits, allowing for the harvest of timber for processing by the company.

The article further claimed that the administration processed all necessary paperwork but were awaiting the Governor to sign off.

Province to pay church health workers

Northern Governor Gary Juffa made this comment following budget cuts by the National Government on Church Health Services in the country.

In Parliament, Health Minister Michael Malabag confirmed that the budget cut will only affect the salary of health workers employed in the church-run health services.          

Juffa said the cuts will affect millions of Papua New Guineans who rely on this service provided my churches in rural areas where government health services are nonexistent.  

Do not play with people’s lives says Juffa

That is the words from Northern Province Governor Gary Juffa when urging Prime Minister Peter O’Neill to release outstanding disaster funds for his people dating back to 2012.        

His comments followed another flood washing away the wet crossing at Girua last night, the second time in the space of three months.

“It exceptionally important that the national government make available the funds that is due to the province, that is about K3 million promised by the prime minister in 2012 at the Independence Oval.

Council yet to make decision on UNRE campuses

Minister for Higher Education Malakai Tabar revealed this in Parliament today.

He was responding to questions without notice from Ijivitari MP David Arore.

The UNRE Popondetta campus is situated in Ijivitari electorate of Northern Province.

Arore questioned why the UNRE Popondetta campus did not accept students this year and when the campus will be given to the province per the ministry’s decision.

Tabar responded that he is waiting for a decision from the UNRE Council because it is an independent body.

Oro to check foreigned-owned businesses

Northern Province Governor, Gary Juffa made the decision that shall be brought before the PEC upon a surprise visit to a shop accused by Oro citizens of selling bad food, expired goods, low quality items at inflated prices and in foreign print. The inspection by the Governor revealed that 90 percent of the foreign workers did not speak English.
