Hunters Meet Pride In Country Round

The match goes down in Atherton far North Queensland.

The PNG Hunters are currently on their longest ever losing streak with eight straight losses since entering the Queensland Cup in 2014.

Pride aren’t flying high either at the moment, losing their last two games.

Hunters see a silver lining in this season away from home as they head on their longest road trip of the year, starting with  a two-hour flight to Cairns before transferring to a bus for a 90-minute drive to Atherton for the Intrust Super Cup Country Week clash.

Specially designed jerseys for country week match

PNGRFL CEO Reatau Rau said the new look jerseys signify that the country week game themed: ‘Get in the Game’, is QRL approved.

“The country week uniforms feature the Morobe colours and has the APEC logo on the chest, which honours the PNGRFL partnership with APEC,” Rau stated.

He further said the jerseys have the traditional warrior and hunter on them.

“The jerseys and shorts will only be worn at this weekend’s country week game in Lae, and auctioned after the match.”

Hunters to leave for Lae this afternoon

For the first time in four years, a Hunters match is being played outside of Port Moresby.

The SP PNG Hunters will be in Lae for only a few days, but their schedule is fully booked.

The Lae and Bumayong secondary schools, including Markham primary, are in for a treat, as the Hunters, including the Enga Mioks and Lae Snax Tigers, will be visiting them on Friday morning.

The teams and their staff will also call into the Angau General Hospital.

After that a coaching clinic for local club and teachers will be hosted at the Lae Rugby League ground.
