The 15-year-old, from a mixed parentage of East New Britain, New Ireland, Central, Milne Bay, Australia and China, was one of those who impressed selectors at the recent 2017 Touch Football National Championships.

Named in the women’s train-on squad, Aila now has her sights set on making her debut for PNG in the 2019 World Cup in Malaysia.

Aila, who is currently a student at Cavendish Road State High School, Brisbane, started playing touch football at age seven.

Touch footy national titles set for June

Touch Football Papua New Guinea (TFPNG) will be looking to expand the elite squad of 30 players following the championships in preparation for the 2019 World Cup at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

TFPNG president Dadi Toka Jr said this year’s championship is very important.

He said the panel of selectors for Team PNG will select an elite squad of 60 men and women.

The selections will also be in preparation for future international events leading up to the 2019 World Cup.
